Muge Komurcu
I am a water, climate, and energy strategist with over 20 years of experience translating complex climate and water science into actionable partnerships, infrastructure resilience strategies, and sustainability programs — delivering measurable impact across the U.S., Middle East, and Europe.
Holding a Ph.D. in Meteorology from Penn State, postdoctoral training at Yale, dual bachelor’s degrees in meteorological and environmental engineering and a master’s from Istanbul Technical University, and over 1,000 research citations including recognition in the IPCC 2021 report, I bring rare technical depth combined with a proven track record of building and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder programs.
At MIT’s Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy, I operated at the interface of applied research and industry consultancy, independently identifying and securing strategic partnerships with U.S. National Grid, Dar Group, and Microsoft AI for Earth, managing all aspects of scope, team assembly, budgets, success metrics, and delivery.
My work spans water scarcity adaptation, energy-climate systems, infrastructure resilience to physical risks (including icing, winds, and temperatures), regional climate risk assessment, and community resilience, engaging policymakers, city officials, federal agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners across insurance, energy, transportation, and technology to align infrastructure and energy priorities with regional climate policy.
