The most devastating and costly impacts of climate change are experienced at regional and local levels. Increasing temperatures, as well as changes in the frequency, intensity, and duration of extreme precipitation and heatwave events, may adversely affect the economies, global health, and sustainable development efforts across the globe. Simulating potential future changes in the mean and extreme climate in various regions can help to support development plans for future city expansions and investment locations.
This project’s research goal was to help guide regional sustainability efforts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under climate change. The research framework generated ultra-high-resolution climate projections over the Arabian Peninsula and used analysis techniques to assess potential future changes in climate and extreme events.
